Discovering the Lakes of Châtel
In summer, the high-altitude lakes offer peaceful landscapes, perfect spots for relaxation, walks, or adventure, and a special connection with Alpine nature. Here’s an overview of the lakes that add to the charm of Châtel and its surroundings.
Lake Vonnes
The most accessible and welcoming
Located just a few minutes from the resort center, Lake Vonnes is an iconic spot in Châtel. Easily accessible, it offers a true haven of peace for families, anglers, and walkers.
In summer, the lake’s perimeter is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic with a view of the surrounding peaks. It’s also a popular spot for trout fishing.
Nearby, picnic tables, a pétanque court, and even playgrounds for kids allow everyone to fully enjoy the setting.
Mouille Lake
For hiking and panoramic view enthusiasts
Easily accessible via the Super-Châtel gondola, the lake is just a few minutes’ walk from the top station. This route offers a scenic ascent, perfect for both kids and adults, and quickly leads to a preserved natural area, away from the hustle and bustle of the village.
But Lake de la Mouille isn’t just about relaxation! For those seeking gentle thrills, you can enjoy fly fishing and cani-karting here — a unique activity where a team of Nordic dogs pulls a wheeled kart along a specially designed course. It’s a great way to experience the world of sled dogs even in summer, all within an exceptional setting.
Queysets Lake
An easy hike with views of Mont de Grange
Queysets lake is a hill reservoir located at about 1,650 meters altitude, offering breathtaking views of Mont de Grange. This lake is accessible via an easy hike, ideal for families or those looking for a gentle mountain stroll.
To get there, from the center of Châtel, head towards Linga-Villapeyron, then continue to Pré-la-Joux and Plaine Dranse. At the Pré-la-Joux parking lot, you can either drive on to Plaine Dranse or take the Pierre-Longue chairlift. At Plaine Dranse, take the first wide path on the left before the chalets, known as the “Chemin des Queysets.” This trail will gently lead you to the top of the Queysets ski lift. Then descend the grassy slope to the foot of the Combes, and the path climbs slightly again until you reach the lake. The hike takes about 45 minutes round-trip, with a 50-meter elevation gain, and is rated easy.
Conche Lake
A hidden gem
Located on the border between Châtel and Morgins, Conche lake is a small, peaceful high-altitude lake nestled in a lush valley, just a few minutes’ walk from the top of the Super-Châtel gondola.
Lake de Conche is especially appreciated for its calm atmosphere and pristine landscapes. Its wetland environment hosts a rich biodiversity, including dragonflies, alpine frogs, and aquatic plants. It’s an ideal spot for a picnic, a peaceful break, or a nature walk with the family.
